Dendê da Serra School endeavors to help diminish social inequality through quality education that is open to all, offering Kindergarten, Grade School and Middle School. The school currently serves 240 children between the ages of 4 and 15. Among these, 150 students are from low-income families in the local community, who receive scholarships. The rest of the students include children from tuition-paying families who are aligned with the school’s mission, as well as children of staff members. One of Dendê da Serra’s driving principles is to promote social integration between children from different socioeconomic and cultural origins, prioritizing children from low-income families. As a result of this work, Dendê da Serra was recognized in 2015 by the international organizations Ashoka and Alana as one of 18 Changemaker Schools in Brazil.
