Our school beekeeping has existed for many years and is part of the teaching in the middle school. What was new in spring 2019 was that schoolchildren also had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of bees as part of the afternoon care. A group of 6-8 students was found who were interested in looking after our school bee colony for a few months. The first thing to do was to carefully approach and familiarize yourself with the colony of bees, with their very own needs and expressions. In addition to observing and developing connections, very practical things were also required. When preparing frames, hammering and wire was stretched, when building a swarm trap box, measurements, sawing, drilling and screwing had to be done. Finally, the highlight was the honey extraction in July. Rich in impressions from working with the bees, we then went into the summer holidays.
